Your maternity session is such a special opportunity to celebrate the season of life you are in before your baby arrives. Whether this is your first baby or you are adding another little one to your family, these photos are a way to remember the excitement, love, and anticipation before meeting your baby.
As a Fort Worth maternity photographer serving the Dallas-Fort Worth area, my goal is to make your maternity session feel comfortable, beautiful, and completely focused on you. I know pregnancy comes with a lot of changes, and the last thing I want you to worry about is whether you brought the right things or what you should do during your session. A little preparation can help you feel relaxed, confident, and ready to enjoy this special experience.
When Is the Best Time to Book a Maternity Session?
One of the most common questions I get from expecting moms is, “When should we schedule our maternity photos?” The best time to book your Fort Worth maternity photography session is usually between 28 and 34 weeks pregnant. During this time, your baby bump is beautifully visible, but many moms are still feeling comfortable enough to move, walk, and enjoy the experience. Every pregnancy is different, so if you are expecting multiples, feeling uncomfortable sooner, or have a special timeline in mind, reach out and we can find the best time for you. I always recommend booking your maternity session ahead of time so we can plan the perfect location, outfits, and overall vision for your photos.
Bring Items That Tell Your Baby’s Story
One of my favorite parts of maternity sessions is when moms bring meaningful items that help tell the story of their growing family.
Consider bringing things like:
● Sonogram photos
● Baby shoes
● A special blanket
● A favorite stuffed animal
● A name sign or announcement item
● A family heirloom
● A meaningful baby item you have already purchased
● Anything sentimental that represents this season of waiting for your little one
These small details add so much emotion and personality to your gallery. Years from now, those little items will bring back memories of the excitement you felt while waiting to meet your baby.
Bring Multiple Outfit Options
One of my recommendations for your DFW maternity photography session is to bring options!
Many moms love having different looks throughout their session. You may want:
● A more elegant, dressed-up look
● A soft and relaxed casual look
● A fun or more personal outfit that shows your personality
Changing outfits allows us to create a variety of images and gives your gallery different feels while still capturing this beautiful stage of pregnancy. If you need help choosing outfits, you can always reach out to me! I would be happy to send you my Amazon maternity outfit inspiration links with ideas that photograph beautifully. A little tip from me: textures photograph beautifully! Lace, linen, knit fabrics, flowy dresses, and soft details add dimension and interest to your photos. Don’t forget about accessories too. Jewelry, earrings, bracelets, or meaningful pieces can add the perfect finishing touch to your look.
Bring the Essentials (Especially in Texas Heat!)
Mamas, I know pregnancy already comes with enough challenges, and Texas heat does not make it any easier!
Please bring:
● Water bottles to stay hydrated
● A hairbrush or comb for quick touch-ups
● Lip gloss or makeup for small refreshes
● Snacks if you need them
● Any pregnancy essentials you may need during your session
● A towel or wipes if we are shooting outdoors during warmer months
We do not need any mamas getting dehydrated during their session! We will take breaks whenever needed, and your comfort is always the priority. Wear Comfortable and Safe Shoes, this one is especially important for outdoor maternity sessions.
Many beautiful Fort Worth maternity photography locations require some walking, uneven ground, gravel paths, or natural terrain. While your beautiful shoes may complete your outfit, I recommend bringing a comfortable pair of shoes for walking between locations. Safety and comfort come first, especially when you are carrying precious cargo! You can always change into your photo shoes once we reach the perfect spot.
Your Partner and Children Are More Than Welcome. Your maternity session is not only about your baby bump, it is about your growing family. Partners and siblings are always welcome to join your session. Some of my favorite maternity images are the ones that include dad’s excitement, a sibling talking to the baby, little hands on your belly, and the connection between your family before baby arrives. These moments become some of the most meaningful memories because they capture your family exactly as it is during this special season. Take Your Time and Listen to Your Body. Pregnancy is beautiful, but it can also be exhausting. Please don’t feel like you have to push through discomfort during your session. Need a break? Take one. Need to sit down? We will. Need a minute to catch your breath? Completely okay. Your maternity session is about celebrating you, and I want you to feel comfortable every step of the way. Relax and Enjoy This Season.
